About the Black Women's Health Imperative

Founded by Byllye Avery in 1983, and presently led by President & CEO Linda Goler Blount, the Black Women's Health Imperative has been the only national organization dedicated solely to improving the health and wellness of our nation's 21 million Black women and girls - physically, mentally and  financially. BWHI's vision is that Black women enjoy optimal health and well-being in a socially just society. Their mission is to lead the effort to solve the most pressing health issues that affect Black women and girls in the U.S. Through investments in evidence-based strategies, BWHI delivers bold new programs and advocate health-promoting policies.
